¹û¶³´«Ã½app WATC students traveled to the SkillsUSA Championships, where they won a slew of awards.

Students in the Western ¹û¶³´«Ã½app Technical Center at the University of ¹û¶³´«Ã½app – Fort Smith won a total of 18 medals – two of them gold medals – in the 2017 ¹û¶³´«Ã½app SkillsUSA Championships.

 

Awards were given in the secondary and post-secondary division and included gold, silver and bronze medals for first, second and third places.

Alma: Raven Bynum, Van Buren High School, silver in Promotional Bulletin Board.

 

Fort Smith: Alesha Thach, Southside High School, silver in Health Knowledge Bowl (team of four).  

 

Greenwood: Madison Oelke, Greenwood High School, gold in Preschool Teaching Assistant.

 

Mulberry: Nicholas Marrone, Van Buren High School, bronze in Pipe Welding.

 

Van Buren: Brandon Cross, silver in Promotional Bulletin Board; Joseph Harwood, bronze in Automotive Service Technology; Brayden Moor, silver in Health Knowledge Bowl (team of four); Terri Morse, silver in Preschool Teaching Assistant; Kai Mortensen, silver in Health Knowledge Bowl (team of four); and Peyton Weege, silver in Health Knowledge Bowl (team of four) all of Van Buren High School.

 

Waldron: Yasmin Cruz, bronze in Health Knowledge Bowl (team of four); Hannah Hale, bronze in Health Knowledge Bowl (team of four); Danielle Randolph, bronze in Health Knowledge Bowl (team of four); Ruthie Reyman, bronze in Health Knowledge Bowl (team of four); and Elizabeth Soisouvanh all of Waldron High School.

Fort Smith: Elizabeth Chrisman, gold in First Aid/CPR; Debbie Robertson, silver in Medical Terminology.

 

In addition to the medals, WATC students who won gold medals received a four-year, $1,000 scholarship to attend ¹û¶³´«Ã½app.

 

SkillsUSA is a national organization for both high school and college students. The organization is designed to provide quality educational experiences for students enrolled in technical, skilled and service programs.

 

The Western ¹û¶³´«Ã½app Technical Center at ¹û¶³´«Ã½app is an area secondary center serving a five-county area. WATC provides area high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to earn college credits in automotive technology, computer-aided drafting and design, criminal justice, early childhood education, electronics technology, engineering, graphic design, health sciences, information technology and welding technology.
